For energy auditors & home performance contractors

Every energy auditor wears two hats. Train for the second one.

BPI, RESNET and LEED made you sharp on the house. The PROACT-ive Closing Method covers the part they skip: helping the homeowner understand what you found and decide to fix it, without becoming a salesman.

The gap

Nobody trusts a salesman.

Every credential in this trade teaches the building. None of them teach you how to hand what you found to the person living in it. So good auditors lose good jobs at the kitchen table and blame the price.

The honest path and the profitable path are the same path.

Failure mode

The Technician

Knows the house cold. Unloads the data. Hears "we'll think about it" and never hears back.

Failure mode

The Closer

Pushes, discounts and invents deadlines. Wins some jobs and loses the trust that brings referrals.

The method

The Trusted Advisor

Diagnoses before prescribing, explains in plain English, and asks for the decision. The way a good doctor does.

The PROACT-ive Closing Method

Six gates every customer passes through before they say yes.

Each gate is something that has to be true before the homeowner will act. Skip one and the job stalls. The method tells you which gate stalled and what to do about it.

P

Pain

Find the gap between what's wrong and what's possible.

R

Reality

Make the current state of the home measurable.

O

Opportunity

Build the vision in the customer's own words.

A

Authority

Identify every decision-maker without interrogating.

C

Capacity

Surface the budget envelope without quoting.

T

Trust

Close on credibility, and keep it after the sale.

01 · TEACH

What good looks like

The posture, the eight steps of the audit, the six gates, the close and the referral.

02 · MEASURE

Whether it happened

Fifty behaviors scored against written anchors, so "good" means the same thing every time.

03 · DRILL

How it gets better

Daily boot camp built from the lowest scores. Specific reps on the specific gate.

04 · CERTIFY

How it holds

Qualified, Certified and Master levels, each earned on three consecutive scored audits.

Six gates. Eight steps. Fifty scored behaviors. One standard for every auditor on your team.

For auditors

Get scored. Get a drill list. Get better.

We work from a live roleplay or a recording of one of your audits, made with everyone's consent. I score it against the same written anchors used in the book, so you leave knowing exactly which gate to work on.

Start here Single session · 90 minutes $299

One full scoring session. We walk the visit gate by gate, and you leave with your three lowest items and the drills for each.

Four-session pack $999 4 × 90 min

Score, drill, re-score. Four sessions spaced across your calendar so we can see the numbers move. Already booked a single? That $299 counts toward the pack.

Run it

Roleplay a step of the audit with me, or bring a recording of a real visit.

Score it

Item by item, out loud, against the rubric. You learn the standard by applying it to your own work.

Drill it

Your low scores become your practice list. One hour a day on the gate that's costing you jobs.

For owners & sales managers

Installed in a week. Run by your lead after that.

Most sales training is an excellent classroom day followed by no change in the field. This install is built around the field. I train your team, ride along on real audits, score every visit with your lead in the room, and leave a daily loop your lead runs after I go.

Day 1

The overview

Eight hours with the whole team. The full method, plus the boot camp format so your lead can run the first session the next morning.

Days 2–5

Ride-alongs

One auditor per day, a real audit in a real home. I observe and don't step in. It's an honest read of where each auditor is.

Same day

The scoring session

Back at the office with the auditor and your lead. We score the visit together. The low scores write the drill list.

Every morning

Boot camp

One protected hour at a fixed time, drilling the lowest-scored gates. Your lead runs it. This is where the change happens.

What the install needs from you
  • A full training dayThe whole audit team, in one room, for eight hours.
  • Scheduled ride-alongsReal appointments on the calendar, one auditor per day.
  • Your lead in every sessionThe person who will run the loop when I leave.

Run your own numbers

Same appointments. Fewer lost visits.

4 weeksto cover The Install

Based on 48 working weeks. An illustration, not a projection or guarantee. Results depend on skill, effort, lead quality, pricing and market.

Straight expectations

The install is fast. The change takes longer.

Weeks 1–2

Shared vocabulary. The team scores the same visit the same way. Discovery gets longer.

Weeks 3–8

Individual gates start moving. The auditor who never asked about the decision-maker starts asking.

Months 3–6

Fewer proposals get shopped. Referral volume moves before close rate does.

Months 6–12

Close rate and average job size. The last numbers to move, and the ones that matter most.

On an audit. Still the best classroom there is.

Who built this

Built in the field, not a classroom.

David Q. Taylor sold in people's homes for twenty years before he ran his first energy audit in upstate New York in October 2016. Since then he has been in more than 10,000 homes, run thousands of audits and trained dozens of energy auditors on live visits.

Every certification he earned taught him the house. None of them taught him how to hand what he found to the person living in it. He built the PROACT-ive Closing Method to close that gap, first for his own teams and now for everyone else's.

Questions

Before you book.

Do I need a BPI certification to use this?

No. The method works for anyone who runs in-home assessments. Most people who use it already hold BPI, RESNET or similar credentials, because it covers what those programs don't.

We use separate closers. Does this still fit?

Yes. The Field Auditor runs the identical visit and stops one move short of the close. That handoff is prepared like a close and scored like one, so your closers get better-qualified customers.

How soon will our close rate change?

Close rate is the slowest number to move, usually 6 to 12 months. Scorecard averages, gate scores and referral volume move first, and those are what we track early.

How many auditors can one install cover?

The Install covers four auditors, one ride-along per day. Install + Handoff covers up to eight. Each additional auditor adds a ride-along day at $1,500.

Is travel really included?

Yes, on the East Coast: hotel, car, meals and mileage. Further out, airfare is billed at cost and everything else is still included.

I'm the only auditor at my company. Can I still do this?

Yes. Start with 1:1 coaching. We score your recordings or roleplays, and you drill your low items on your own. The book has a chapter built for solo auditors.

Next step

Your next audit is already on the calendar. Make it the one you score.
